At the window (after a Doctor’s appointment)

It’s black out there.

Black and cold.  And still.

Suddenly, it begins.

Thunderous, violent pellets,

driving into the earth,

breaking through my window,

pounding plants,

stomping grass

into submission.

Angry tears.

Passion held in too long.

Slamming now against my door,

relentless in power, and in flow,

until…

Suddenly there is silence.

Breathless, I wait and watch.

It’s still black out there.

Black and cold.

And still.
